We provide tailored training for organisations to help employees with energy-limiting conditions and invisible disabilities, allowing them to work effectively.
Our mission is to shift the narrative around invisible disabilities and reshape perceptions of fluctuating illnesses and energy-limiting conditions.
We strive to create a more inclusive and understanding environment.
We don’t just provide specialised training for creating inclusive spaces for individuals with energy-limiting disabilities; we embody this commitment in our practice.
All staff members at Brain Health Breakthrough CIC have invisible disabilities, and we are dedicated to promoting equality and diversity by fostering a transformational work culture that empowers everyone.
Inclusion of every ability, visible or hidden, makes us stronger
Brain Health Breakthrough CIC is an award-winning, female-led social enterprise operating as a not-for-profit organisation. We focus on hiring individuals with invisible illnesses and energy-limiting conditions to better serve the communities we engage with. As leaders in the peer-led model, our goal is to empower these communities.
'You’re disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and "long-term" negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.'
Employers should recognise that the effects of hidden disbailites and energy limiting conditions can fluctuate.
On some days the person might seem well, but on others their symptoms can be worse and they might need more support or additional time off work.” (ACAS February 2023)

Blackburn with Darwen Carers Service:
We ran specialised wellbeing and
self-care programmes, for 31 unpaid carers. Feedback from staff included:
“The programme was appropriate
to the very diverse needs of our
groups including older people,
Asian carers and single parents.
Their approach has been authentic
and really makes people feel at
ease.
I’d rather work with someone who
has real experience like Karen – she
has real understanding, empathy
and insight.”
Hyndburn Council:
We are a
Hyndburn COVID-19 Community
Champion. This is a Hyndburn
Borough Council initiative, to deliver a
range of initiatives to
enhance communications and
develop networks which will
support those disproportionally
affected by Covid.
Feedback included: “It is wonderful
to see this 12 week program
supporting those with long-COVID
helping those most in need in
Hyndburn. We are really happy to
support this work and collaborate
with BHB as their knowledge and
expert services are exactly what
our communities need at this
difficult time.”
Blackburn with Darwen Council:
We ran a long-COVID peer-support group ‘Train the Trainer’ course. Feedback from management included:
"I think it might be useful for us to provide feedback on how the sessions go in BWD, which would provide you with examples of how Train the Trainer supports organisations to set up their own"
Feedback from participants:
"The course has really helped raise my awareness of the impact of long covid on individuals and also the challenges they face, the help that is needed & how to effectively provide support."
"The impact of long-COVID from people who have lived experience, this has enriched the course."
"Really enjoyed the sessions."
