Pegasus Projects

Overview

A collaboration between Brain Health Breakthrough CIC and Spring Vale Farm. We have come together sharing the same values, to offer children, young people, and adults participation-led opportunities.

Aims

To deliver high-quality training and one-to-one support, to create a world where ordinary people can make the choice to thrive.

Mission

To provide social and emotional support for children, young people, and adults in Hyndburn and the surrounding areas, from multiple backgrounds and with various needs. We do this by enabling people to gain transferable skills, develop emotional and mental resilience, supporting individuals with empathy, teaching  coping strategies, and fostering positive social connections.

This work is facilitated through use of an outdoor, safe setting that supports four horses that have been rescued from neglect. To achieve this we offer a range of bespoke packages, ranging from work-based placements, accredited qualifications, and Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL).

Frequentley asked questions

What is Equine Facilitated Learning

Equine Facilitated Learning ELF is a participation-led activity where the person learns to gain trust with the horse, learning to regulate their emotions to become in tune with the horse.

We provide Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) with four rescued, previously neglected horses, who have already been trained to gain trust and confidence.

Activities in the session will be decided by the participant and may include:

  • Problem-solving challenges with the horse
  • Physical touch
  • Breath work
  • Observing body language
  • General observing
  • Resolving anxiety in the horse
  • Leading the horse (with/without a halter and rope)
  • Liberty work
  • Clicker training
  • Grooming and care of horse

“I would fully support and advocate for this creative therapy offer, I strongly believe more young people could benefit from such a unique approach to managing mental health or respite from being at home.”

“Firstly from our point of view, the session was so relaxed and welcoming for the group, which made the group feel comfortable and safe.

Comments from group included; 'can we go again'/'I want to go back'/'I loved it'/'it was brilliant'“

“These visits were undoubtedly a circuit breaker that prevented a very serious decline in my daughter's mental health and behavioural issues. It helped me to get some rest and not feel so alone and guilty watching my little girl in pain. I knew she was well cared for and enjoying herself. The Neighground was the first time she had smiled in a while.”
